Ceremony

Our

We are excited to honour Chloe’s cultural heritage with a progressive Jewish wedding ceremony officiated by the fabulous Rabbi Susan Shamash.

Rabbi Susan is ordained as a rabbi by ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal, which is part of a worldwide effort to fully embrace a contemporary egalitarian Judaism as a profound spiritual practice and social transformer, reaching beyond religious boundaries and institutional structures.

Our ceremony will include:

The Chuppah: A symbolic wedding canopy, representing the home we will build together. This is the big wooden thing at the front of the room.

The Ketubah: The Jewish marriage contract, affirming our vows and shared commitments. We will have signed this the day before the wedding ceremony, so come take a look at our fancy new contract!

Sheva Brachot: The Seven Blessings, each invoking themes of love, unity, and hope. Also, there will be wine.

Vows and Exchange of Rings: This is pretty self-explanatory. We will be exchanging vows and also rings.

Some Hebrew and Prayers: Tradition! We would like to invite all of our guests to interpret the prayers, and concepts of God, used in our wedding ceremony in whichever way feels most authentic and meaningful to them.

Breaking the Glass: The breaking of the glass is a long-standing tradition that marks the completion of the wedding ceremony. Interpretations vary, from signifying the fragility of life to representing the duality of joy and sorrow in our life events. Daniel is really looking forward to this part.

Yell, “Mazel Tov”: When the glass is broken and the wedding ceremony is complete, you can follow Jewish tradition by yelling, ‘Mazel Tov!!’ at us. Don’t worry, the Rabbi will give you instructions.
